You could say that, from economy, the Kia Carnival has now been upgraded to business class.
That's because compared to its three previous generations, this all-new Carnival is the most feature-packed and luxurious iteration to date. In fact, Simon Kang of Kia Asia Pacific's Product Planning division best described it as Kia's so-called "Grand Utility Vehicle."
Kang stated: “The all-new Carnival offers ample headroom, spacious and welcoming seats. All constructed with elegant materials to indulge you. Most importantly, it accommodates every individual occupant comfortably.”
And so the all-new Carnival welcomes its seven occupants with Smart Entry and Remote Start. Smart Entry allows for keyless unlocking of doors, while Remote Start can, well, remotely switch on and warm up the engine before the occupants enter the cabin.
Up front, the pilot's power-adjustable perch comes with a memory function, allowing him or her to save their preferred driving position. The pilot and co-pilot can have their seats cooled or heated if they so wish.
Meanwhile, the all-new Carnival's second-row passengers are treated to leather business class relaxation seats, which offer reclining adjustment and ottomans. These seats, too, can be heated for when the mercury drops, or cooled when it rises.
What can also keep the all-new Carnival's cabin cool are sunshade blinds and a three-zone automatic climate control system. The dual sunroofs, on the other hand, exude a different kind of coolness.
The cockpit docks an eight-inch touchscreen audio with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, which also allows hand-free accessibility with Voice Control. Other features that ensure easy flights include USB ports, wireless mobile phone charger, Drive Mode Select, and Electronic Parking Brake.
While the all-new Carnival has yet to be fitted with auto-pilot, this "GUV" can still provide easy and safe journeys with Drive Wise. This is Kia's new sub-brand dedicated to developing autonomous driving and assistive safety technologies.
The all-new Carnival's Forward Collision Avoidance Assist gives an extra layer of frontal collision protection. Meanwhile, the Rear Cross Traffic Alert makes revering safer. The Lane Keep and Following Assist centers the vehicle in lane by automatically adjusting steering using lane marker sensors.
The safety kit list goes on. There's LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, auto-dimming interior mirror, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera with dynamic guidelines, blind spot warning, cruise control, and seven airbags.
As for the powertrain that propels the all-new Carnival to the sky — all right, we mean the road — is a SmartStream 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine with 202ps and 440Nm of torque. This is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
All of these luxuries come in style, too. The all-new Carnival sheds the minivan styling of its predecessors in favor of a more SUV-like look, with its squarish front grille and slender overall shape. The design highlight is the “island roof,” which pertains to the chrome appliqué to the C-pillar.
